Yeah, this is actually our last post, but the first open to comment!

Two years ago today, we read the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette editorial that started our "wheels turning" which soon carried us to SANTORUM CYBERGATE. We think the results achieved paid back all our efforts in spades.

We never allowed comments because, back in late 2004 and early 2005, there were so many naysayers concerning the Santorum residency issue that we felt that we would either be spending all our time defending the effort, or possibly give up the idea completely. There was a fairly widespread (but not universal) feeling among members, leaders, and groups in the Pittsburgh "progressive community" that the issue was not worth spendng time on. There were posts being made on other blogs saying that the residency issue was "unimportant" and "a waste of time", that we should be discussing "real issues".

So, to the doubters we give you this FACT - the Cybergate Residency issue was the beginning of the end for Tricky Ricky Santorum. (And to the early believers, we give you our THANKS .) The issue, by itself, didn't beat Santorum, but it got the "honesty/ethics" ball rolling. Hell, by the time the official campaign season began, even the establishment Dems had learned that you use EVERY weapon you have to defeat your opponent. (Yeah, that picture on the Allegheny County Democratic Committee website came from Santorum Cybergate.)

There were TWO people who BEAT Senator Tricky Ricky Santorum and neither one was named Bob Casey (but Bob did a truly classic job of not losing). The first was Erin Vecchio and the second was the T-Rickster himself. That's right folks, T-Ricky was our biggest ally.

This self righteous fool who believes himself capable of analyzing (and solving) the incredible geo-politcal and military challenges that lie ahead (especially after the FUBAR his boy, bush, has made), couldn't even figure out a simple politcal problem in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The final night of the campaign, in Crafton, PA, he was still making excuses on the residency issue. So, to T-Ricky, who allowed the people of Pennsylvania to see the real Tricky Rick, we give our thanks. We could've and would've done it without you, T-Rick, but we sure do appreciate the help!

However, the most credit and our greatest thanks go to great Erin Vecchio of Penn Hills, PA, without whom there would have never been a Cybergate issue and therefore no SANTORUM CYBERGATE. She was our inspiration.

Also, the importance of the work on the Homestead Tax issue done by Democracy for Pittsburgh cannot be overstated, so to everyone who helped out in the petition drive - our deepest thanks. A special note of apppreciation for those that went "above and beyone" for the petition drive and in their moral support for SANTORUM CYBERGATE. You know who your are.

And our special thanks to a great Virginia Democrat who contributed the pictures of Santara , T-Ricky's home in Lessburg, VA way back in December of 2004! The saying is that "a picture is worth a thousand words" so let us give to her 500 "thank"s and 500 "you"s, each one heartfelt.

Thanks to all of you, SANTORUM CYBERGATE has consistently remained in the top 20 results when you use "the Google" to look up the word/name santorum on "the internets". On election day it was # 15 !

To those blogs who linked to us, thank you. And if we missed a link to your blog, our apologies and special thanks to you for putting up with our bad webiquette.

And to the Brabender - GREAT JOB you did for Santorum and Hart! Check out his website for the "Client Quotes" for a T-Ricky quote, a Missy Hart quote, and even a BOB NEY quote praising this "politcial genius". SERIOUS LOL One of you bloggers should post some screen shots before they disappear. They are funny.

Now that we've finally made a post open for comments , we sure hope someone does. Now that would be embaressing...

...because we've always suspected that we only have 100 readers who are just compulsive cookie/cache cleaners.

Will we blog again? Mayber if we find a topic we care to explore (exploit) in detail. Although we have opinions on every issue and we find our opinions to be far superior to anything we've read on any other blog, we don't want to be preachy!

And keep your eyes open for Santorum's return. His dreams of being president are still alive. We hope to never have to reunite the A.S.A.P. (Anti-Santorum Action Posse), but keep in mind that in the year 2028, Tricky Ricky will still be younger than John McCain is now.

According to KDKA, Santorum, on the final evening before the election, still didn't get it. Santorum said - "People didn't elect him to live in Penn Hills, he was elected to go to Washington..." But just a week earlier T-Ricky Santorum was still pretending to live in Penn Hills by passing out Halloween candy from his Penn Hills "front"!

We just got tired of having a LIAR for a Senator. That's all.

Well, T-Ricky, the voters made it easier for you now. You won't have to lie about your residency anymore.

On November 19, 2004, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ran an editorial that was the catalyst for SANTORUM CYBERGATE.

Our next post will be our last post until after the election. Now it's time to hit the streets. After the election, there will only be a couple more posts before we shut down Santorum Cybergate and formally disband the A.S.A.P. (Anti-Santorum Action Posse).

Our upcoming post will be the Santorum Songbook Volume Two - THE VICTORY SONGS. (a followup to our mega-hit Volume One). Don't worry, it's not bad luck to release it early and there are definitely no chickens being counted here. Besides, it's not luck that's will win this election - it's the work we all have done and the work we all will do in the next few days.

Although I'm not a pacifist by any measure, I've always believed that virtually all wars are fought for bad reasons. I remember a night in '71 camped out at the Tidal Basin in DC, preparing for the coming days of demonstrations, listening to this one being performed by Phil Ochs If I were ever to become a pacifist (I'd kill to become a pacifist), this would be my anthem -

In the debate, General Tricky Ricky demanded to know of Bob Casey:

Jeb Bush Comes Out of the Closet and then Santorum Slips Out the Back Door

We arrived at the scene too late to witness the Jeb Bush incident, but we can report that the demonstration continued well after the "closet encounter of the weird kind".

We arrived at the same T station a half hour after the closet fun, but only noticed a few extra police. It's a short one block walk to the Duquesne Club. It was a great sight: plenty of people, signs, and chanting. The response from pedestrians and drivers was fantastic; the energy level is rising. Props to the United Steel Workers Union for organizing the event and to all the people who attended.

Tricky Ricky Santorum doesn't live here. He has lied about it for 2 years. He cost Allegheny County thousands of dollars by simply not telling the truth.

Today he withdrew his claim to Allegheny County, PA residency. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review has the best article (gives credit to Democracy for Pittsburgh) and here's the article and editorial from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He can spin it any way he wants, but this is the act of a desperate coward in full (uncontrolled) damage control. They are trying anything now, because nothing is working.

Pay back the $ 55, 000 you charged the people of our Commonwealth for YOUR school bill.

And then it's time for our "pay back" That will come on November 7th.

We will probably have more to say on this story in future posts, but right now we are wordless. It has taken 22 months of our efforts to achieve this moment. We have no self-congratulations, it was a job that needed to be done and the responsiblity fell to our posse.

Tricky Little Ricky "Can't Give No Satisfaction" Could it be - Premature Attackulation ?

The people of Pennsylvania are not satisfied with Tricky Ricky Santorum. Since he just can't satisfy like he used to, we suspect something might be wrong and we're diagnosing (Bill Frist style) the problem to be -

PA - Premature Attackulation

We here at A.S.A.P. know absolutely nothing about attack politics (our only concern is to help elect a Senator who actually lives in Pennsylvania), but we have heard that negative attack ads work best if done later in the campaign but still early enough to give the opponent time to respond. If the ads are done too late, the voters feel it is unfair not giving to the "attackee" time to respond. The ads might backfire. If the ads are realeased too early, the voters see this as a sign of desperation. Again, the ads might backfire. Timing is critical, but of course this technique works best if there is at least some element of truth to the ads.

The candidate has to be able to hold off until just the right moment - the moment the voters are ready. That's when the ads should come.

If the ad contains nothing but lies and COMES way too early that is a symptom of:

PA - Premature Attackulation

Note that we are talking about negative attack ads, not negative attack campaigns such as the "flip-flop" attack used on Kerry. Negative "theme" campaigns based on character can be developed early and be quite successful.

In the case of the recent ad campaign by Brawearer (we're still having problems remembering that name) , they put together a bunch of easily debunked LIES (there's a dead guy running Casey's campaign!) and spurted it out more than seven weeks before the election. The voters have to be ready, dammit! And now the truth is out and the voters feel even less satisfied. They need new man, a REAL MAN like, say -

There is no cure for PA. The only solution is a new MAN!

(BTW, even though he is a total whore for the Washington lobbyists, we had always suspected that Tricky Ricky was a lousy TRICK! )

CREW released their Top 20 list of the Most Corrupt Members of Congress and Tricky Ricky Santorum made it again. We posted about their list in September of 2005. Last year (the first for their list), there were only 13 names! This list has grown over 50% in just one year!

So that we can remninisce about the good old days when the list was only 13 names long, wer're repeating our post from last September.

Be proud, fellow Pennsylvanians, "our" junior senator T-Ricky Santorum has gained a most distinguished honor by being named one of the 13 Most Corrupt Members (after Tom Delay) of Congress by CREW - Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. Actually if you count Delay, I guess he would be in the top 14 - still quite an accomplishment for the Virginian. With all the corruption and cronyism in the Republican Party, the competition to make the list must have been fierce.

On Monday, Sep. 11th the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette incorrectly stated the value of Tricky Ricky Santorum's HOME (the real one, not the "front" in Pennsylvania). The correct fair market value is now:

$962,500.00

That's up more than $200K just since the beginning of the Santorum Cybergate scandal!

Way back in November, 2004, Eleanor Chute, reported in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

"The Santorums also own a house, with an assessed market value of $757,000, in Leesburg, Va., according to Loudoun County records."

On Monday, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette was still using that figure ("he and his family spend the vast majority of their time at their $757,000 home in Leesburg, Va") in their editorial calling on Tricky Ricky Santorum to pay back the people of Penn Hills, PA, instead of sticking all the citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with his school bill.

This issue is different (but related to) the Penn Hills issue. For Tricky Ricky Santorum, lying has become a way of life. So lying about a PRIMARY residence on the Allegheny County Application in order to receive a tax reduction, to which he is not entitiled, was no big deal for a serial LIAR like Tricky Ricky.

One thing dayvoe (that political junkie) didn't mention is that in addition to the $2,500 fine, the penalty for making a false statement (lying) on the Homestead Tax Exclusion Application, there is also provision for "prosecution as a third degree misdemeanor" which means up to one year in prison.

Tricky Ricky Santorum is a lawyer. He knows what "PRIMARY residence" means. He claims (lies) that he does not have a copy of his Homestead Tax Appication. Now tell us: What lawyer doesn't keep a copy of everything he signs? Instead of producing that copy, he cost the taxpayers of Allegheny County thousands of dollars having County workers search for the form (at the request of the Pgh Tribune-Review). Now, after almost 2 years of lying about his PRIMARY residency, he's going to give a few bucks back!

It's taken almost two years for this LIAR to come up with this LAME story!

So everybody, what's the moral to this story?

Lie on your taxes and when you get caught just say you'll donate it back to the people you stole it from.

How sad that he is now using his childeren to tell the voters of Pennsylvania that he moved them "to Washington".

LEESBURG, VA IS NOT WASHINGTON

No one who lives in Leesburg, VA would say they live in Washington. The two locations are almost 40 miles apart. Would anyone who lives in Greensburg, PA say they live in Pittsburgh? NO! And that distance is only 33 miles. The use of his children to distort the truth about his residenccy is truly sad.

Does this look like Washington D.C. to you?

For all the reason we cited in a previous post, the ad is filled with bullshit but now Tricky Ricky is using his children to tell his lies for him. We have previously blogged on WHAT A COWARD HE IS!

We had heard that his media adviser Brasnapper (0r whatever his name is) was some kind of political genius. Really? We're laughing at him We're laughing at Tricky Ricky. Their ads reek of desperation.

Tticky Ricky Santorum had his lines down good, but the words we never heard:
"I live in Pennsylvania".

He "spends" some time here, "maybe a month a year", well "probably".

He does the things he needs to do to establish a residency but not a primary residency. He pays taxes (although not as much as he legally should), he votes here, even has a dentist here! We were expecting to hear that his favorite dog kennel is here. But there's still one inconvenient truth:

Penn Hills, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania -
is not Tricky Ricky's primary residence!

HE LIVES IN VIRGINIA AND HAS CONSISTENTLY LIED ABOUT IT FOR FINANCIAL GAIN!

And then he hides behind his children, AGAIN!

We've already shown that there is no reason to live in Virginia except by choice!

Everything else is the same old bullshit talking points.

It sure felt good to see the November 19, 2004, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette being quoted. That editorial was the seed for SANTORUM CYBERGATE. To see the residency issue on national TV made our 20 month campaign even more worthwhile.

As far as the debate goes, we gave Casey a slight edge with it being a draw at worst.

With Casey in the lead, T-Ricky will have to do much better than what he showed on MTP. Anyway, we think debates are highly overrated as a means to change public opinion. Remember Kerry won all three of his.

All the dire predictions about T-Ricky chewing up Casey proved false, as we thought they would. Casey seemed relaxed and confident (even if still not a great debater), Santorum looked anxious and wound up tighter than a ... well you fill in the rest ... it's late...

Don't worry, by the third debate nobody will be watching or listening anyway....

The Right Wing Play Book - Lesson Number One: How to Win an Election in August!

If there's one lesson that all Democrats should have learned, but still have not, it is that high profile elections can be greatly influenced (or maybe even decided?) in August or even earlier. We're not talking about the state representative race here, but rather presidential, senatorial, and gubenatorial. And only in races where bucoodles of bling will be spent on advertising. Here in Pennsylvania, that means the Tricky Ricky Santorum vs. Bob Casey Senate race.

Repugs know that it is the best time to plant the Seeds of Negativity is EARLY. Post Labor Day is fine for discussing those "issue" things, but pre Labor Day is the time to start on those other things that actually win elections - issues of character.

Waiting until after Labor Day for the "official" beginning of the campaign season is the OLD wasy of doing things. The Repugs know this. Hopefully Democrats will learn.

Some would argue that the voters are all "on vacation" or aren't "paying attention" in August and we would argue - YOU ARE CORRECT, they aren't paying attention, but they still hear. And more important, they are not yet sick of the campaign and completely tuned out so the message is still getting through, even if only on a subliminableble level. The tune-out happens 2-3 weeks before election day. Overwhelmed by a GREAT FLOOD of media, which has continued unabated for several weeks, the voters simply TUNE OUT AND STOP LISTENING COMPLTELY. It's no longer that they "aren't paying attention", but rather that they are consciously avoiding paying attention and don't ever hear. All they want is for the election to be over.

Following the '04 elctions - "At least two (polls) conducted by Democrats since the election found that 'flip-flopper' was the top concern or most memorable information voters had about Kerry." This is from a USAToday article in January '05 which should be read and understood by all Democrats.

The Demcoratic candidate LOST THE ELECTION IN AUGUST to a bunch of repugs dressed in Halloween costumes! And to the Swift Boat Liars.

The month of August '04 was dominated by the two-pronged attack of flip-flops and swift-liars.

Three straight debate wins could not undo the damage done in August.

That is why it's good to see efforts like Grandpa Gorilla continuing during the summer.

Democracy for Pittsburgh didn't wait until this summer, they planted their seeds last spring. And of course, the great Erin Vecchio of Penn Hills, Pennsylvania planted her seeds in November of '04 !!!

Remember, seeds that are planted earliest will show the most growth come harvest day.

Late October is the time for GOTV efforts, not message development. If Bob Casey is saving all his negative media for late October, he is making a MAJOR mistake.

Witness these recent letters to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

This talking point seems to be accepted as truth, even from some good writers, for example in this piece from Tom Ferrick -

"Rick Santorum, his wife and his six children do not live in Penn Hills, Pa. They live 217 miles away in Leesburg, Va. It's a common arrangement among elected officials who serve in Washington, D.C.
I see nothing wrong with this. Santorum spends most of his time in D.C. He wants to be close to his family. His family lives there with him. End of story."

END OF STORY??? NO, not exactly.

First of all, he lives in LEESBURG, VIRGINA. If he actually lived in DC, that would be the "end of story" because he would automatically have "residence" in ONLY ONE state because the District is not a state.

Instead he chose to LIVE IN VIRGINIA. Just outside DC??? NO. In LEESBURG, VIRGINIA. Leesburg is located in Loudoun County which is THREE counties away from DC.

Our sources tell us that, even though he can use the VIP road through Fairfax county, he has to be spending at least 3 hours per day commuting, or 15 hours per week, MINIMUM.

Tricky Ricky's HOME IN VIRGINIA is nearly 40 miles from DC. (Interestingly, where he LIVES IN VIRGINA is closer to the place of his birth (Winchester, VIRGINA) than it is to DC. For another half hour of driving he could be living in Pennsylvania.

When the Senate is in session, the days ARE long (we've seen it on C-SPAN!). So when does he spend time with his children? Midnight??? Living in Pennsylvania would NOT decrease his time (basically, weekends while the Senate is is session) with his family. He could easily drive home on weekends. He might have justification for living in Virginia if he were representing Texas, but it doesn't fly here.

Now, let's look at some UNFUZZY math.

According to no less an authority than Jon Stewart in "America: The Book", Congress meets approximately 120 days per year. A year has 365 days. So in order to work ONE THIRD of the year in DC he LIVES IN VIRGINA???

OK, let's convert that to 5 day work weeks. The 120 days would be 24 work weeks which leaves 28 WEEKS HE IS NOT WORKING. In percentage, he LIVES IN VIRGINA so that he can work in DC 46% of the year.

And since this Congress might only be in session for 100 days (the "Do Less-Than-Nothing" Congress), he will be LIVING IN VIRGINIA so that he can work -
ABSOLUTE DAYS = 100 / 365 = 27 %
WORK WEEKS = 20 / 52 = 38 %

There are truck drivers, sales people, field technicians and many thousands of Pennsylvanians who spend as many as 50 weeks a year WORKING away from their homes and PENNSYLVANIAN FAMILIES!

HE HAS TO LIVE IN VIRGINA???? GIVE US AN EFFEN BREAK!

Countdown to K.O. T-Ricky:

#5. HE ONLY WORKS ONE THIRD OF THE YEAR (ON AVERAGE A LITTLE MORE THAN TWO DAYS PER WEEK). THIS YEAR WITH THE "DO LESS-THAN-NOTHING" CONGRESS, HE'LL ACTUALLY WORK A LITTLE MORE THAN A QUARTER OF THE YEAR.

#4. WHEN HE DOES WORK HE DOESN'T SEE HIS FAMILY ANYWAY BECAUSE THE DAYS ARE LONG AND, BY CHOICE, SO IS HIS COMMUTE TO VIRGINA. HE WOULD SPEND JUST AS MUCH TIME WITH HIS FAMILY IF HE LIVED IN PA.

#3. THERE ARE MANY THOUSANDS OF PENNSYLVANIA TRUCK DRIVERS, SALES PEOPLE, TECHNICIANS, AND OTHER PROFFESSIONS THAT SPEND 50 WEEKS A YEAR ON THE ROAD AWAY FROM THEIR FAMILIES. THEY LIVE IN PENNSYLVANIA AND SO SHOULD HE!

#2 IF THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH HIS LIVING ARRANGEMENT, WHY HAS HE SPENT SO MUCH TIME TELLING LIES AND MAKING WILD ACCUSATIONS IN ORDER TO CARRY ON THE ILLLUSION OFACTUALLY LIVING HERE?

The truth is:

Tricky Rick founded HIS charity. ("Look, the bottom line is I have a charity.")
HIS charity is run by lobbyists.
HIS charity is staffed by T-Ricky's campaign aides.
HIS charity spends more on overhead and salaries for lobbyists and campaign aides than it does on actual charity.
HIS letter (to the Daily News) begins with "THE FACT..." but all the smearing of an independent, honest, journalist can't change the REAL FACTS.

WASHINGTON - Sen. Rick Santorum's charity donated only about 40 percent of the $1.25 million it spent during a four-year period, well below Better Business Bureau standards - paying out the rest for overhead, including several hundred thousand dollars to campaign aides on the charity payroll.

The charity, Operation Good Neighbor, is described on its Web site as an organization promoting "compassionate conservatism" by providing grants to small nonprofits, many of them faith-based.

The Better Business Bureau's Wise Giving Alliance has set a standard that charitable organizations spend at least 65 percent of their total expenses on program activities.

Operation Good Neighbor is based at the same address as Santorum's campaign office in suburban Philadelphia, and some of the same people who have worked on his campaign are working for his charity and collecting money from it, records show.

State Treasurer Bob Casey yesterday urged U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., to disavow an independent group's TV ad that lauds the incumbent's position on Social Security.

Mr. Casey, a Democrat who hopes to unseat Mr. Santorum in next year's election, said that Mr. Santorum should call for the ad to be taken off the air because its sponsor, a group known as Americans for Job Security, declines to identify its donors.

He charged further that the ad distorts Mr. Santorum's position on the controversial issue. And in a news conference Downtown, Mr. Casey raised questions about similarities between the TV commercial and an Internet ad on the Social Security issue, posted on the Santorum campaign's Web site.

"Sen. Santorum and his supporters are not being honest on who paid for these ads and who these people are and he's not being honest about his record on Social Security,'' Mr. Casey said.

Actually if you count Delay, I guess he would be in the top 14 - still quite an accomplishment for the Virginian. With all the corruption and cronyism in the Republican Party, the competition to make the list must have been fierce.

Citizens from the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area were on hand to greet the Visitor from Virginia but Tricky Ricky would have none of it, never coming out of his hole in the lower level of of Borders Books. If he had followed the example of Punxatawney Phil (who actually lives in Pennsylvania), T-Ricky would NOT have seen his shadow - which we all know signifies ONLY 15 MONTHS until T-Ricky goes down in defeat and Pennsylvania once again has two senators.

Reports from inside of T-Ricky's burrow included one critic of his book, who after making the purchase and bringing it to the Visitor, proceeded to rip the pages to pieces. We assume that his review will be negative. The critic received a personal escort out of the building by security personnel.

Another Pennsylvanian brought along a copy of the Homestead Tax Form for T-Ricky to sign. He's lied so often about his residency, why not do it again? Since it was supposedly "lost", why wouldn't he just sign again stating that he is a resident of Allegheny county? Could it be that the form specifies penalties for false statements?

The response to the Democracy for Pittsburgh "Santorum Visitor Center" from drivers passing by was fantastic! The response from those that came to buy T-Ricky's book (because they actually believe his crap) was silence along with looks of disapproval, often mixed with that "knowing" look that almost always means they know nothing at all.

In the end, T-Ricky decided that he did not want to visit the Santorum Visitor Center and receive his free map of Pennsylvania. Instead, Santorum slipped out the back door.

Yes, Virginia, There is a Santorum Residence

If Benjamin Ragheb has his way, Sen. Rick Santorum will be ruled a Pennsylvania resident in name only.

Ragheb, 24, of the South Side, is de facto head of the 1,300-strong local Democracy For America group, since he has organized their gatherings via meetup.com for two years. The group, which evolved from Howard Dean’s presidential campaign, has begun to circulate a petition asking Santorum to quit claiming he lives in Allegheny County and receiving a tax break under the Act 50 Homestead Exemption.

Homestead exemptions go to property owners who live in their homes as a primary residence. As has been widely reported, the senator, his wife and their six kids do not seem to spend much time in the two-bedroom home they own in Penn Hills. In response to a City Paper query in December, Santorum’s office sent a statement, beginning “Rick and Karen have been residents of Penn Hills since 1995 …”

Ragheb and other members of the Democracy group aren’t buying it. The Santorums already face a fight with Penn Hills School District over the tuition the district has paid to a cyber charter school to educate the senator’s kids. But Ragheb’s group is staying out of that one. “Homestead exemption,” however -- them’s fightin’ words.

an anonymous blogger’s collection of clickable items related to the case. It includes three purported views of Santorum’s southern manse, which resembles nothing available at a Penn Hills real estate office. The petition has been passed around everywhere from Super Bowl parties to bars; organizers are hoping to troll progressive events for more signatures soon. They plan to present it to Santorum’s Pittsburgh office and to Allegheny County officials to be named later.

Not that Ragheb believes the senator, faced with the sting of a thousand signatures, will resign -- or pay his back taxes and a possible fine, as state law allows. Though the petition has no legal force, for Ragheb it’s a character issue -- and one that may contribute a few more anti-Santorum voters.

“One of the things I’ve learned is that it’s important to tailor your message to your audience,” Ragheb says. “I used to tell my parents that if Bush were re-elected, I’d become an alcoholic.”

Will Tricky Ricky Santorum get away with it?

There are proposals for new legislation to define residency for the purpose of Pennsylvania cyber schools. For instance -

"State Rep. Anthony DeLuca, D-Penn Hills, plans to introduce legislation defining residency later this month."

Tricky Ricky thinks new definitions of residency will help his case:

"'Senator Santorum is pleased to learn that the Penn Hill School District has recognized that those individuals who are residents of Pennsylvania and are serving their country are allowed to perform that service while maintaining their residency in Pennsylvania,' Santorum's spokeswoman Chrissy Shott said."

Others disagree -

"...local Democratic chairwoman Erin Vecchio, who led the crusade to bounce Santorum from the residency rolls, said she supported the measure because it would better define residency. She did not think it would allow Santorum to qualify as a district resident."

While A.S.A.P. supports the idea that those missionary, military, and federal workers who truly are "temporarily" away from their residence should be able to receive cyber schooling for their children (as long as cyber schooling is allowed by law), we want to make it clear that this is not the case with Tricky Ricky Santorum. We do not believe elected federal office holders should be included. Tricky Ricky thinks he can be President! Should the people of one school district in Pennsylvania be expected to pay for his children's education during that "temporary" assignment? Allow elected federal officials to claim dual residency, but make them get their children's education from the place where they live. Besides, how many elected federal officials ever intend to go to Washington, D.C. on a "temporary" basis? (And whatever happened to that "great idea" Republicans had for term limits?)

Tricky Ricky can never claim that he moved from the Penn Hills house (because he never lived there), or claim that he intends to return to it (because the only Pennsylvania he wants to go to is 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., D.C.)

Unless this law is written so that it defines residency, for cyber school purposes, as the place you once lived, moved from, and intend to return to, then Tricky Ricky will be helping others steal from the taxpayers of Pennsylvania.

Because if Tricky Ricky is allowed to get away with this, then what is to prevent other traveling out-of-state landlords who once lived in, for example, Tennessee (where cyber schools are specifically forbidden by law) from buying a house in PA, renting it, and sticking the taxpayers of that school district with their cyber school bill?

Contact your PA state Senators and Representatives on this issue!

HARRISBURG, PA: After days of news reports detailing how Senator Rick Santorum has taken $100,000 in Pennsylvania taxpayer dollars for cyber-schooling his children, Rep. T.J. Rooney, Chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, today called on Santorum to refund Pennsylvania's children the taxpayer dollars he has taken from their education to put towards the education of his own children.

Santorum and his family live in Virginia.

Rooney said today, “Senator Santorum keeps going around trumpeting family values, trying to convince citizens that he is the voice for the Pennsylvania family. Now we learn that apparently Mr. Santorum believes that family values means taking from the children who need our help to pay huge bills for his own family, even though they don't live in Pennsylvania.”

According to the Associated Press, the Penn Hills School District in suburban Pittsburgh has spent $100,000 on the Internet-based education of Santorum's children since 2001-2002. Santorum purchased his two bedroom residence in the school district in 1997 for $87,800. His Leesburg, Virginia home was assessed at $757,000 this year.

“This is a classic case of the rich man's Robin Hood,” Rooney followed. “Mr. Santorum makes a generous salary and lives in a very expensive home in Virginia, but he didn't let that stop him from unfairly taking from the Pennsylvania students who need those school funds desperately.”
