GOODBYE from SANTORUM CYBERGATE - LAST Post and FIRST Open Thread

Yeah, this is actually our last post, but the first open to comment!

Two years ago today, we read the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette editorial that started our "wheels turning" which soon carried us to SANTORUM CYBERGATE. We think the results achieved paid back all our efforts in spades.

We never allowed comments because, back in late 2004 and early 2005, there were so many naysayers concerning the Santorum residency issue that we felt that we would either be spending all our time defending the effort, or possibly give up the idea completely. There was a fairly widespread (but not universal) feeling among members, leaders, and groups in the Pittsburgh "progressive community" that the issue was not worth spendng time on. There were posts being made on other blogs saying that the residency issue was "unimportant" and "a waste of time", that we should be discussing "real issues".

So, to the doubters we give you this FACT - the Cybergate Residency issue was the beginning of the end for Tricky Ricky Santorum. (And to the early believers, we give you our THANKS .) The issue, by itself, didn't beat Santorum, but it got the "honesty/ethics" ball rolling. Hell, by the time the official campaign season began, even the establishment Dems had learned that you use EVERY weapon you have to defeat your opponent. (Yeah, that picture on the Allegheny County Democratic Committee website came from Santorum Cybergate.)

There were TWO people who BEAT Senator Tricky Ricky Santorum and neither one was named Bob Casey (but Bob did a truly classic job of not losing). The first was Erin Vecchio and the second was the T-Rickster himself. That's right folks, T-Ricky was our biggest ally.

This self righteous fool who believes himself capable of analyzing (and solving) the incredible geo-politcal and military challenges that lie ahead (especially after the FUBAR his boy, bush, has made), couldn't even figure out a simple politcal problem in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The final night of the campaign, in Crafton, PA, he was still making excuses on the residency issue. So, to T-Ricky, who allowed the people of Pennsylvania to see the real Tricky Rick, we give our thanks. We could've done it without you, T-Rick, but we sure do appreciate the help!

However, the most credit and our greatest thanks go to great Erin Vecchio of Penn Hills, PA, without whom there would have never been a Cybergate issue and therefore no SANTORUM CYBERGATE. She was our inspiration.

Also, the importance of the work on the Homestead Tax issue done by Democracy for Pittsburgh cannot be overstated, so to everyone who helped out in the petition drive - our deepest thanks. A special note of apppreciation for those that went "above and beyone" for the petition drive and in their moral support for SANTORUM CYBERGATE. You know who your are.

And our special thanks to a great Virginia Democrat who contributed the pictures of Santara , T-Ricky's home in Lessburg, VA way back in December of 2004! The saying is that "a picture is worth a thousand words" so let us give to her 500 "thank"s and 500 "you"s, each one heartfelt.

Thanks to all of you, SANTORUM CYBERGATE has consistently remained in the top 20 results when you use "the Google" to look up the word/name santorum on "the internets". On election day it was # 15 !

SERIOUS LOL One of you bloggers should post some screen shots before they disappear. They are funny.

Now that we've finally made a post open for comments , we sure hope someone does. Now that would be embaressing...

...because we've always suspected that we only have 100 readers who are just compulsive cookie/cache cleaners.

Will we blog again? Mayber if we find a topic we care to explore (exploit) in detail. Although we have opinions on every issue and we find our opinions to be far superior to anything we've read on any other blog, we don't want to be preachy!

Besides, there are already quite a few good blogs out there. (And a few that SUCK.)
One GREAT one here in Pittsburgh is 2 Political Junkies.

And keep your eyes open for Santorum's return. His dreams of being president may still be alive. We hope to never have to reunite the A.S.A.P. (Anti-Santorum Action Posse), but keep in mind that in the year 2028, Tricky Ricky will still be younger than John McCain is now.

According to KDKA, Santorum, on the final evening before the election, still didn't get it. Santorum said - "People didn't elect him to live in Penn Hills, he was elected to go to Washington..." But just a week earlier T-Ricky Santorum was still pretending to live in Penn Hills by passing out Halloween candy from his Penn Hills "front"!

We just got tired of having a LIAR for a Senator. That's all.

Well, T-Ricky, the voters made it easier for you now. You won't have to lie about your residency anymore.

Our next post will be our last post until after the election. Now it's time to hit the streets. After the election, there will only be a couple more posts before we shut down Santorum Cybergate and formally disband the A.S.A.P. (Anti-Santorum Action Posse).

Don't worry, it's not bad luck to release it early and there are definitely no chickens being counted here. While looking for the above clip, I wandered off and found these two that I saw performed live a quarter century (plus a decade) ago. There was a war going on back then, too.

Although I'm not a pacifist by any measure, I've always believed that virtually all wars are fought for bad reasons. I remember a night in '71 camped out at the Tidal Basin in DC, preparing for the coming days of demonstrations, listening to this one being performed by Phil Ochs If I were ever to become a pacifist (I'd kill to become a pacifist), this would be my anthem -



I'll never forget seeing the Doors perform this one back in '69. Jim's singing about something that I guess, with DNA testing, won't happen anymore - the Unknown Soldiers. It's not much comfort for the soldiers trapped in the hell called Iraq.

In the debate, General Tricky Ricky demanded to know of Bob Casey:

In honor of Columbus Day (ok, we realize that Columbus didn't really discover America - that honor goes to Leif Erikson?, or Leif Garrett?, or the Toronto Maple Leafs, eh?), we are venturing into uncharted territory with our first (last and only):

(It's much better than the Rasmussen Poll because RASputinMUnchauSEN has extra letters!)

We've always believed that the best name for Tricky Ricky Santorum is, well, Tricky Ricky! WTF else? It's the best name to highlight his PRIMARY character flaw, the one that is his downfall - he can't tell the truth.

Either name, Tricky or Little, is preferable to the numerous "family unfriendly" names that are sometime used (you know the ones we're talking about), but we want to give you -

Our Top 5 Reasons for TRICKY RICKY:

5. T-Ricky has TRICKED the voters of Pennsylvania for the last 12 years (16 for some of us!)

4. T-Ricky tried to TRICK the taxpayers of Allegheny County

3. T-Ricky tried to TRICK the taxpayers of Penn Hills.

2. Even wingnuts knows that T-Ricky is TRICKY.

And the number one reason:

Although, the name, Little Ricky, does have its merits, and is a winner in its own way, there is one more reason that we never thought it was a good name for Tricky Ricky, especially here in Western PA. For anyone over the age of 60 (which is about half the population of Allegheny County - or something like that), when Little Ricky is mentioned, fond memories of this little guy come to mind:

Jeb Bush Comes Out of the Closet and then Santorum Slips Out the Back Door

We arrived at the scene too late to witness the Jeb Bush incident, but we can report that the demonstration continued well after the "closet encounter of the weird kind".

We arrived at the same T station a half hour after the closet fun, but only noticed a few extra police. It's a short one block walk to the Duquesne Club. It was a great sight: plenty of people, signs, and chanting. The response from pedestrians and drivers was fantastic; the energy level is rising. Props to the United Steel Workers Union for organizing the event and to all the people who attended.

Tricky Ricky Santorum doesn't live here. He has lied about it for 2 years. He cost Allegheny County thousands of dollars by simply not telling the truth.

Today he withdrew his claim to Allegheny County, PA residency. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review has the best article (gives credit to Democracy for Pittsburgh) and here's the article and editorial from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He can spin it any way he wants, but this is the act of a desperate coward in full (uncontrolled) damage control. They are trying anything now, because nothing is working.

Tricky Little Ricky "Can't Give No Satisfaction" Could it be - Premature Attackulation ?

The people of Pennsylvania are not satisfied with Tricky Ricky Santorum. Since he just can't satisfy like he used to, we suspect something might be wrong and we're diagnosing (Bill Frist style) the problem to be -

We here at A.S.A.P. know absolutely nothing about attack politics (our only concern is to help elect a Senator who actually lives in Pennsylvania), but we have heard that negative attack ads work best if done later in the campaign but still early enough to give the opponent time to respond. If the ads are done too late, the voters feel it is unfair not giving to the "attackee" time to respond. The ads might backfire. If the ads are realeased too early, the voters see this as a sign of desperation. Again, the ads might backfire. Timing is critical, but of course this technique works best if there is at least some element of truth to the ads.

The candidate has to be able to hold off until just the right moment - the moment the voters are ready. That's when the ads should come.

If the ad contains nothing but lies and COMES way too early that is a symptom of:

PA - Premature Attackulation

Note that we are talking about negative attack ads, not negative attack campaigns such as the "flip-flop" attack used on Kerry. Negative "theme" campaigns based on character can be developed early and be quite successful.

In the case of the recent ad campaign by Brawearer (we're still having problems remembering that name) , they put together a bunch of easily debunked LIES (there's a dead guy running Casey's campaign!) and spurted it out more than seven weeks before the election. The voters have to be ready, dammit! And now the truth is out and the voters feel even less satisfied. They need new man, a REAL MAN like, say -

There is no cure for PA. The only solution is a new MAN!

(BTW, even though he is a total whore for the Washington lobbyists, we had always suspected that Tricky Ricky was a lousy TRICK! )

Re-Post from 09/05 and update: T-Ricky makes CREW list of Top 13 Most Corrupt

CREW released their Top 20 list of the Most Corrupt Members of Congress and Tricky Ricky Santorum made it again. We posted about their list in September of 2005. Last year (the first for their list), there were only 13 names! This list has grown over 50% in just one year!

So that we can remninisce about the good old days when the list was only 13 names long, wer're repeating our post from last September.

UPDATE: Speaking of "Top" lists - a google search of the word/name "santorum" now has Santorum Cybergate in the Top 25 (it was Top 40 last year - thanks all!)

Ahh, the Good Old Days (9/27/05):

Be proud, fellow Pennsylvanians, "our" junior senator T-Ricky Santorum has gained a most distinguished honor by being named one of the 13 Most Corrupt Members (after Tom Delay) of Congress by CREW - Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. Actually if you count Delay, I guess he would be in the top 14 - still quite an accomplishment for the Virginian. With all the corruption and cronyism in the Republican Party, the competition to make the list must have been fierce.

"The Senate Ethics manual provides that improper conduct which may reflect upon the integrity and reputation of the Senate may be investigated by the Senate Select committee on Ethics.

The fact that Sen. Santorum ignored the Penn Hills school district’s residency requirements and enrolled his children in a cyber school in Pennsylvania, at a time when the children clearly resided in Virginia -- at significant cost to the taxpayers demonstrates a level of dishonesty that brings the reputation and integrity of the Senate into question. On Monday, Sep. 11th the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette incorrectly stated the value of Tricky Ricky Santorum's HOME (the real one, not the "front" in Pennsylvania). The correct fair market value is now:

$962,500.00

That's up more than $200K just since the beginning of the Santorum Cybergate scandal!

Way back in November, 2004, Eleanor Chute, reported in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

"The Santorums also own a house, with an assessed market value of $757,000, in Leesburg, Va., according to Loudoun County records."

On Monday, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette was still using that figure ("he and his family spend the vast majority of their time at their $757,000 home in Leesburg, Va") in their editorial calling on Tricky Ricky Santorum to pay back the people of Penn Hills, PA, instead of sticking all the citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with his school bill.
